Fueling Our Future: Nutrition, Sustainability & Student Success
On August 4, 2026, the California Cattle Council hosted Fueling Our Future: Nutrition, Sustainability & Student Success at the California State Capitol, bringing together legislators and Capitol staff, school nutrition leaders, agricultural organizations, and community partners to highlight the connection between California agriculture, school meal programs, and student success.
The event featured a meal prepared by Placer Union High School District Nutrition Services using California-grown and produced ingredients. Guests enjoyed a birria-inspired meal featuring slow-cooked California beef, Mexican street corn salad, and seasoned beans, with options including a fresh salad, wrap or hot bowl with rice. The meal reflected the fresh, high-quality foods PUHSD Nutrition Services serves students throughout the district.
Developed in partnership with the California Beef Council and California Dairy Council, the event demonstrated how California-grown beef and dairy products can be incorporated into nutritious, appealing school meals. It also provided an opportunity to connect policymakers directly with school nutrition professionals and agricultural partners while highlighting the role California’s cattle and dairy producers play in feeding students and supporting communities across the state.
